Sonora

Sonora, Mexico is located south of Douglas Arizona and is known as the cattle state of Mexico.

Villa Hidalgo: Pastor Ramon Soqui (pastor in Ensenda) was born and raised in Villa Hidalgo, which is about four hours south of Douglas, Arizona. He and I began to visit his village in 1995 with the Gospel. We conducted evangelistic open-air meetings in the main plaza with films, special music and preaching. We also visited door to door telling people about Jesus.

Later, John Parsons and I began to visit Villa Hidalgo right after Christmas to present a special program for the children. After the nativity story and an opportunity to receive Jesus we passed out the "Christmas Brown Bags" filled with candy and small gifts. Each year on December 25 I leave for Sonora for this special outreach.

Several years later a church in Alaska donated the money to buy a small lot and construct a church building. We have a faithful leader there who has a love for his town. We have favor with the city officials and many times they have come to help us cross the border with our gifts and materials.

Bavispe: Located north-east of Villa Hidalgo. We first visited this village in 2001. It used to take four hours from Villa Hidalgo traveling on a dusty, dirty road and crossing a river with water half way up our truck.. Now, with a new paved road it only takes us 1 1/2 hours. We gained favor with the mayor and teachers in this village. The mayor and his family accepted the Lord along with some of the teachers. Now we hold services in their large back patio. Cosmi (mayor of Bavispe) and Dalia help us to take Bibles and literature to other villages.

Esqueda: Just crossing the border is the village of Esqueda. There we have delivered Christmas Brown Bags and worked with the leader of DIF (government agency for the welfare of children). Visiting youth groups have held open air meetings and VBS programs at one of the local churches.

There are many villages without a witness for the Lord. We have stopped many times to talk to people who are hungry for God. Maybe you would like to join us on a missions trip to reach some of these areas. Please get in touch with us.
